I went into this movie completely blind. I have no idea what the backstory is for this character. Didn't watch one trailer or even read the synopsis.
I saw the poster and said, what the hell, I just wanted to get out of the fucking house and going to the movies is one of my favorite pastimes.
So, on to my review. Turns out, he is a Marvel character and might tie into Spider-Man world. As I recognized one of the villains. At least by name.
The action was smooth, I did notice some cartoonish CGI, but I didn't let it stop me from enjoying what I was seeing. Those who know me know I love a vigilante that kills and this delivered nicely. And boy did I appreciate the R rating. I don't think this movie would have faired well with anything less.
And I must say that you could skin a villain's face if you dragged it along Aaron Taylor-Johnson's abs, they were that shredded.
Moving on. Don't expect a deep plot. In fact, it's thinner than wet Scott's one-ply toilet paper, but the action moves the story along at a decent pace. Therefore you don't have time to get bored.
Also, don't expect much in the way of character development. Just don't. Especially from the FL, she is there to do things and say things while looking pretty and fashionable and that's it, damn it!
Don't expect witty dialogue. In fact, some lines caused me physical pain to hear, but luckily, some action happened and I was able to recover.
Also, yes, it's predictable with forced villains that just want to be pissed about something.
So...
FINAL VERDICT: INNOCENT... BUT TO A POINT. Movie, your ass is skating on thin ice. If not for the sexy swag and total badassness of hero, and cool action scenes, we would have had a major crime on our hands. I'm going to let you go free today, but if you show up again with a sequel, it better be good.
